    Elizabeth Styring Nutt (1870-1946)

    Elizabeth Styring Nutt was born in the Isle of Man. She was appointed Principal in 1919 of the Victoria College of Art and Design, remaining until 1943. She oversaw the name change to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1923. She wrote and exhibited extensively in both Canada and England and was an activist for women and art education. This painting was included in the 1927 Royal Canadian Academy Exhibition.
