Emily Falencki - Atonement
Discover powerful work from a rising artist who has chosen to live and practice in Nova Scotia.
Includes a comprehensive and insightful essay by Sarah Fillmore, Chief Curator at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia: “Falencki’s studio is a refuge. Signs of her own story are all around: photographs of her grandparents as young adults and then older, as she knew them; postcards of paintings, newspaper clippings and colour charts paper the wall. But most present in the room are the faces of those who have gone missing, the subjects of her paintings. She works from ubiquitous source material, drawing from Facebook postings, “missing” posters, or newspaper reports of lost or disappeared persons. Often the story about her subject is unresolved—or unsolved.”
